My Sinulog '07

Every year, during the 3rd week of January, we are celebrating the Sinulog Festival. This day is we offer for the little Jesus Christ which was given to Humabon, the sultan of Cebu by the Spaniards specifically Magellan, when they first land in the island of Cebu. Many devotees believe in the little Sto. Niño. They believe that it can heal our sicknesses, make the family bond more stronger and many other things. That is why many believers come here even if they live in far places or even in the other islands of the Philippines.

During the morning of that day, I just watched television broadcasted by ABS-CBN about Sinulog. My classmates and friends asked me if I will watch the parade but I said I am not sure about it and will just wait for my cousins. But the truth is I really want to go. After a few minutes, my cousin asked me if I want to go with them to see the parade. Without a second thought, I said yes. It was already one o'clock when we departed our house. While on the jeepney, I was really irratated by one of the passengers because he was so noisy and feels like he owns the jeepney. After reaching Cebu State College of Science and Technology Campus, we decided to walk from there to the parade. And then, one of my cousins shouted at the noisy boy that "You don't own the jeepney, so keep quiet because you are not the only passenger in there!". We were shocked at our cousin but we just continued to walk.

We just passed by the Basilica del Sto. Niño Church. I was dissapointed because we did not spend time to go inside the church. When we reached the UC Main Campus, we stayed near the carnival for a while to rest and eat ice cream. After taking a rest, we decided to cross the other road but the parade was going on. But we were still lucky because we saw Matt Evans with their float. He had fair complexion. After their float had passed by, we immediately cross the street and decided to stay their and see if there were actors and actresses. For about an hour of waiting, there were no signs of them. So we chose to go to Fuente Circle. IOn there we saw many colorful and wonderful floats. And we saw Nadine Samonte, Jennylyn Mercado, Sheryl Cruz, Patrick Garcia and Sunshine Dizon of GMA-7. Jennylyn and Sunshine are some of my favorite actresses in GMA. I always watch their shows like "Bakekang" and "Encantadia" which they are the main characters. The role of Sunshine in Bakekang is her face is ugly but in the parade she was really beautiful. We also saw Melanie Marquez in another float. She was so beautiful at her dress and like a beauty queen, she waved her hands to the people who were there.

It was already six o'clock when we come up our minds to go home. But some of my cousins wanted to still go in Ayala to see the fireworks. But I was already tired and another company of us also wanted to go home. So we parted our ways. While walking, we saw many people enjoying the Sinulog Festival. Some showered water on the streets. Others were dancing and there were also some who took pictures with the floats which were still there.

That day was so very tiring but it was worth it because we had fun.
